Cute Asian kids can’t save you, American Apparel!

I’m over you, American Apparel.  And I’m over racist/sexist Halloween costumes.  So, I won’t spend too much time on my soapbox here.  I’m just going to leave you with these pictures and let ya’ll mock the offensiveness/ridiculousness on your own time.  It’s way too easy.  But if anyone’s got some snarky captions they want to contribute, I will gladly post them.

But wait.  Didn’t I say something about cute Asian kids?  Ah, that’s right.  They also have some unexpectedly badass Asian kids peddling significantly less offensive costumes:

Nice try. But I don’t think you can hide behind the cute Asian junior d-bags for too long.

  • Do these Maddox/Pax Jolie-Pitt look-alikes make up for Dia de los Muertos?
  • Are these kids going to grow up to be porn stars?  KTown reality stars? Bad guys in an M. Night Shyamalan film?  Or just regular people?
  • Is American Apparel being selectively racist against Egyptians and Native Americans and not against Asians?
  • Are ya’ll over Halloween yet?

Image GrumbleUpon: Racial Drag Online Children’s Game

Hey, little girl children!  DressUpWho.com lets you play the game of racial drag online just like your mommies and daddies do in real life.  As you can see by the above picture, a naked white girl with a pixie haircut (read: Hermione Granger) can pass for an Asian girl as long as she has some black wigs and a stereotypically pan-Asian wardrobe.

Here are the instructions for the “Asian Girl” dress-up game:

Oh, but if you’re looking for something a bit more specific, go ahead and play these as well:

  • Samuri Girl (not Samurai, mind you!)
  • Oriental Girl 2 (the sequel)
  • Oriental Girl (the original)
  • Ethnic Native Costumes (for the outfits they can’t figure out the origin of)
  • Hawaiian Sisters Dress-up (I didn’t know that Paris and Nicky Hilton are “Hawaiians”!!!)
  • Japanese Fashion (The rainbows and clouds are exclusively Japanese.)
  • African Fashion Week (Africans love wearing turquoise eyeshadow and sparkly halter tops.)

Where are all the non-racist game developers. Hmmmmm?

You call this “innovative?” Hannibal Lecter did this in ’91

I don’t have cable, so I didn’t watch the MTV VMA’s, THANK GOD.  Yet another poor cow had to die so that Gaga could sweat all over it.  Seriously, where is PETA when you need them most?

1.  Did Gaga eat her dress after she wore it?

2.  Does this outfit “rock” harder than the one on Vogue Hommes Japan?

(thanks, Kev)

Fashion Trashion: Gaga wears a “Meatkini” on Vogue Japan cover

According to the MTV “Buzzworthy” Blog, Gaga is “rocking” a meat outfit on the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan‘s September issue.  As usual, Gaga is being “provocative” and “sensational” and also kind of gross.  Even if you aren’t a vegetarian, wouldn’t you agree that this is pretty disgusting?  My Asian sensibilities are crying out, “THIS IS A WASTE OF FOOD!”

I’m wondering if this cover is going to sell a lot of Vogues in Japan.  Provocative by American standards, this pic doesn’t really sell the concept of meat to an already red meat-averse Asian nation. Some questions for you, dear readers:

1.  Is Gaga trying to make some sort of statement?  Or is she just “being herself”?

2. Is Gaga using the book My Year of Meats by Japanese-American writer Ruth Ozeki for inspiration?  Do you think Gaga knows how to read?

3.  Is there a reason why the meat at her crotch is shaped into the tiniest of dick shapes?

4.  Is this “fashion” or “trashion”?

(thanks, Kev)

They couldn’t find a single Asian person to model this hat?  Maybe it’s because Asian girls don’t like hats that look like

  • the dog ate it and regurgitated it back out.
  • the Chinese takeout delivery guy wears it.
  • Target employees wear it.

You can never start ‘em too young with the learning.  Let’s teach our baby to devalue their diverse ethnic heritage in favor of wearing a “cute” slogan and developing into a fully fledged racist/fetishist.

You gotta love Google Images.  I do.
